I was at my local supermarket looking to purchase some marshmallows. I had just seen a recipe on how to make my own but was unable to find any plant-based ingredients for it. A thought crossed my mind: “Why not use Marshmallow plant?”
Making marshmallows is not a difficult thing. The sap of the marshmallow plant was primarily for this purpose. Another name for this plant is Althaea Officinalis. In this article, I will talk about how to prepare marshmallows made from marshmallow plant.

The Marshmallow plant is a yellow flower with large petals. Its appearance strongly resembles an actual marshmallow, hence its name. Although many are familiar with the fresh taste of this cookie-like fruit, few know that it can be used for more than just baking.

You need only two important ingredients to make rich and fluffy marshmallows. The emulsifier and sweeteners. The sweetener aerates the marshmallow and enhances fat distribution in the making process. The sweeteners enhance dissolution and slow down the crystallization process. These sweeteners include the following; sugar, corn syrup, and chocolate chips. The emulsifier is what handles the fluffiness and puffiness of the marshmallows.
Steps On How To Make Marshmallows Made From Marshmallow Plant
- Two egg white
- One teaspoon of vanilla
- Half cup of raw cane sugar
- One teaspoon of powdered marshmallow (the root)
Procedures To Follow
- Beat the egg white until it’s almost stiff.
- Add vanilla and beat again till it is almost stiff.
- Stars add sugar, one teaspoon full at a time, and hit as you add.
- Finally, add marshmallow powder and beat again till it blends.
- Use the teaspoon and place the marshmallow on the cookie sheet you intend to use.
- Place it in an oven and wait for one hour to bake.
This recipe will give you a fluffy marshmallow cookie. You will feel the taste of the marshmallow root inside the cookies.
Another Recipe For Making Homemade Marshmallows
- Half cup of rose hydrosol.
- One teaspoon full of marshmallow root powder.
- Half cup of clean, warm water.
- One of two teaspoons full of hibiscus flowers (powdered).
- Pinch of Salt.
- One teaspoon full of vanilla extract.
- One cup of honey.
- One-quarter of gelatin (without flavor)
- One cup of maple syrup.
- Parchment paper.
Instructions To Follow
- Add the warm water to the marshmallow root powder inside the bowl, and mix till it blends well. Share the mixture into two equal half.
- Put the first half in a saucepan and the other half in a big bowl where you can mix well.
- Add gelatin powder to the other half of the marshmallow with water and mix well.
- To the other half, you placed inside the saucepan, add the maple syrup, and placed it on fire to boil . Then, ensure you turn and mix it while on fire. Keep mixing for like ten minutes while on fire.
- Turn the marshmallow water with maple syrup inside the saucepan. Remember it contains the mixture you made in step 4 above. Stir with little strength. You can do it with an electric mixer.
- Use the parchment paper you have gotten to line the inside of the baking dish. This is to avoid the marshmallow sticking to the container after it is set.
Getting Your Marshmallow Set
- Get your glass baking dish with parchment paper. Turn the fresh marshmallow into it, and wait for 4-8 hours.
- Put another parchment paper on a cutting board and put it on the marshmallow after the recipe is ready and set. Then turn upside down for the marshmallow to fill on the board.
- Cut your marshmallow into desired shapes with a buttered knife.
- Ensure you keep it in a place at room temperature to preserve it.
